Today is our director Yun’s Birthday!!! We brought her a birthday balloon so she can carry it to finish the work today lol. On the way, the camera crew sent her a song on walkie-talkie <Special Love For The Special You> which was a very special gift between filming in this desert.
We lived in Beatty and drove to Death Valley for shooting everyday. Yesterday we came back late at night, and there was only one Denny’s open in town at that hour. Naturally, that’s our only option for the night. In fact, I have always had a good impression on Denny’s. They have a lot of food choices and the taste is not bad. But tonight, it turned out to be the worst dining experience ever! When our group entered the restaurant, for whatever reason, the manager clearly expressed that we were not welcome and showed an extremely bad attitude. Some crews even felt that we were being targeted because we are Asian. So we decided we will never set foot in Denny’s again!
Since today is Yun’s birthday, the team would love to have a birthday gathering for her. Obviously, Denny’s is no longer an option, so the small restaurant we had lunch today became a good choice. We called and asked, they immediately agreed to close later and made a great dinner for us! Something more special, as they heard the dinner is for someone’s birthday, so the owner’s sister even made a big cake for Yun! Compared with the experience at Denny’s yesterday, we were really touched by this two sisters. Thanks to the owner and her sister, we had a soulful meal full of touching qualities of people that big chain can’t have.
